41. Se recomienda administrar la profilaxis antibiótica durante los 120 minutos previos a la incisión quirúrgica.

Profilaxis antibiótica: Momento de administración.

Uno de los aspectos fundamentales para mantener la eficacia de la profilaxis antibiótica es administrarla en el momento óptimo. En el caso de los betalactámicos de semivida corta (p.ej.: penicilinas y cefalosporinas como cefazolina, cefoxitina y cefuroxima) es aconsejable su administración durante los 60 minutos previos a la incisión quirúrgica. En el caso de vancomicina, aminoglucósidos o fluoroquinolonas, la infusión intravenosa debe comenzar 90 minutos antes de la incisión quirúrgica, ya que estos antibióticos requieren periodos de infusión largos. En el caso de cirugías que requieran la isquemia del miembro, administrar la profilaxis antes de aplicarla(15,16).
